Alkaline water has a higher pH level than neutral water, typically above 7 on the pH scale. In recent years, there has been growing interest in consuming alkaline water for its potential health benefits.  

How Does an Alkaline Filter Work?

It's worth mentioning that alkaline water can be produced artificially using alkaline water filters or ionizers. Alkaline water purifiers involve 2 processes called Electrolysis, the separation of elements to make the water purify, and Natural Mineral Cartridges, which reintroduce minerals in the process, such as ionized calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium into the water to increase the pH of water. It indicates how acidic or alkaline water is, with a pH of 7 being neutral. Alkaline water purifiers have a pH level greater than 7, while RO purifiers have a pH level less than 7.


Here are the two ways how an alkaline water filter works:

A.     For the Ionization Process 

  1. Water Filtration: The first step in the process involves filtering the water to remove impurities, such as sediment, chlorine, heavy metals, and bacteria.  
  2. Electrolysis: Once the water is filtered, it enters an electrolysis chamber within the alkaline water filter.
  3. Ionization: The electrolysis chamber applies an electric current to the water, causing a process known as ionization.  
  4. Alkalinity Adjustment: As a result of the ionization process, the water is separated into two streams: alkaline water and acidic water.
  5. pH Adjustment: Alkaline water filters typically have settings that allow users to adjust the pH level of the water according to their preference.  
  6. Dispensing: The purified and ionized alkaline water is then dispensed through a separate outlet, usually for drinking or cooking purposes.  


 B.     For Mineral Cartridge Process

1.     External Housing- This process involves removing physical impurities, sediments, bacteria, and heavy material from the water.

2.     Pre-Activated Carbon- This process weeds out the impurities as much as possible before water passes to the RO membrane.

3.     RO membrane working- RO Membranes help in maintaining the TDS of the water by separating it into two streams- high TDS and low TDS ones. 

4.     7-in-1 Alkaline + Copper filter- After removing all the impurities, this process comes into the picture, which involves keeping all the essence of copper water through the presence of a copper filter. It also helps combat UV rays.

5.     7-in-1 filter cartridge for balanced pH- This process helps in

-         Making water mineralized by releasing minerals like Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Sodium.

-         Enriching it with -ve ORP and Hydrogen.

-         Making it anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial. 

6.     Dispensing: The purified and mineralized alkaline water is then dispensed through a separate outlet, usually for drinking or cooking purposes.

 Alkaline Water Filter Vs Normal Water Filter

Alkaline water filters and normal water purifiers serve different purposes and have distinct features. Here's a comparison between the two: 

  1. Filtration Capability: Normal water purifiers are designed to filter water and remove impurities. Alkaline water filters include filtration mechanisms to ensure water purification before ionization.
  2. pH Modification: Alkaline water filters have an additional feature that uses electrolysis to increase the water's pH level, making it more alkaline. Normal water filters, on the other hand, do not alter the pH of water and maintain a neutral pH.
  3. Health Claims: Alkaline water filters are often marketed with claims of potential health benefits associated with alkaline water consumption. Normal water filters, on the other hand, focus on providing clean and safe drinking water without any specific health claims.

In summary, alkaline water filters offer the additional feature of modifying the pH level of water to make it more alkaline, while normal water filters focus on providing clean and safe drinking water without altering the pH.
